a little update..

Hello. I thought id write a little update as to where I've been this past week or so.( I wish I could say something nice like a week away or a holiday somewhere warm!) I hadn't been feeling well for 10 or so days. It gradually got more and more painful to the point where i couldn't walk or move without being in total agony. On Sunday night i went to a & e because the pain was awful. By 2:30am i had been admitted to have it removed. I hate hospitals I know no one likes them but I'm an anxious person at the best of times so this sent my anxiety levels through the roof as it was so unexpected.

I was told I'd be operated on at 8:00am this wait felt like forever. I have had operations before but now I'm older I'm so much more aware of everything going on around me.. I called my Daniel and my dad before I went down to surgery trying not to be a teary mess from the nerves. When I woke up I was in recovery and I had people around my bed starting at my heart monitor my heart rate was 160bpm when it's supposed to be around 60bpm (I think, I'm asking my mum as I write this.) So I was in recovery for 2 hours longer than I should have been whilst they got my heart rate down. Then I was taken to a ward I was pretty happy to see my mum at this point sadly I had to drink some not no nice orange squash and eat some soggy toast before leaving.

I was discharged about an hour later and I only remember bits of the car journey home due to 2 doses of lorazepman which made me feel like a total zombie! I slept for hours and hours. Today was the worst part though. The nurse visited I was under the impression she would simply clean and change my bandages. I got the shock of my life when she started pulling gauze out of my open wound, this was the worst pain.. it felt like the gauze went on forever and I felt every slight movement. Then she cleaned and began repacking. I felt sick  when she told me this has to happen everyday for 14 days - 28 days. I'm currently dreading tomorrow already and I'm pretty emotional. I'm thinking of ordering something nice to treat myself if it arrives in 3-5 days thats 3-5 days of painful packing and re packing down and something nice to look forward to right? I will be blogging when I'm feeling 100% better and my wound has healed. As getting better is my main priority right now I just hope it's a speedy recovery.

A big thank you for all the lovely kind messages on twitter and instagram it really made me smile :) and feel a little bit better!

edit: someone thought it was my appendix its not.. it was an infection underneath my arm which hard turned to a large abscess (gross, sorry I know.)

  12. I'm assuming this is your appendix? I've been unlucky enough for mine to burst on me too and I totally feel your pain! I happened to be on holiday in Prague at the time so that made the situation all the more terrifying. I'm wishing you a speedy recovery and its great your back at home so soon with you not liking hospitals. Sending hugs xxx

  18. Oh you poor thing! I have the same problem with my heart rate - mine's usually 100 bpm resting (normal is around 80 I think) but after surgery it's through the roof, and unfortunately I've had a lot of surgeries :(

Thinking of you and sending lots of healing thoughts, you DEFINITELY deserve lots of treats to keep you going! After my big op in September my boyfriend rewarded every physio session with a new nail varnish :) it's the little things that help!

  41. This is so strange...my boyfriend has literally just had an op a couple of days ago for the same thing, his underarm lymph nodes or whatnot kept swelling up due to his epilepsy medication. I can see how much pain he is in when the nurse changes the dressing so my heart goes out to you! Hope your recovery is quick

  51. Poor you, I hope you feel better soon. My nursey tip would be to take whatever painkillers you have been prescribed 30mins-1hr before the dressing and packing is to be changed. (or paracetamol) I have looked after lots of wounds like that and can imagine its painful.

  52. Thats a shame, I've recently had surgery too on my ear and had the packing out the other day, its an awful feeling when it keeps coming out.
I had a similar injury at the bottom of my spine and I still remember the worst part was having to go back to the health centre each morning to have it cleaned.
It does get better soon, I tried to time the pain meds to take them about 20 mins beforehand and it helps a little, also biting down on a lollipop helps too, although I can't eat cola chuba chupps anymore without a weird feeling in my stomach haha x

  96. Hey, I know this was a while ago now but I just thought I'd let you know I completely understand the agony of packing. I've suffered from these cysts since I was 15, and so every few months have to have them drained/cut out and then routinely packed. It's agony but it does stop them from coming back in the same place.

I hope you're feeling better now xx
